In the process of beginning my Master’s project, I looked at historical case studies and examples of jewellery from different time periods. Finding that the aspect of illusion has been ever present in jewellery, and still is, I wanted to highlight the correlation between material choice and illusion in jewellery.

By predominantly using the material aluminum and referencing the historical technique of chainmailling, I have made a series of jewellery that aims to highlight the desire we have to protect ourselves.
I believe that although the reason for wearing protective jewellery today differs from the historical past, our appreciation of the thought of wearing something that truly offers protection, remains.
My work aims to show jewellery which gives an illusion that if worn, it could truly offer protection.

Under processen att påbörja mitt masterprojekt tittade jag på historiska fallstudier och exempel på smycken från olika tidsperioder. Jag upptäckte att aspekten illusion alltid har varit närvarande inom smyckekonsten och är det fortfarande, så jag ville belysa sambandet mellan materialval och illusioner inom smyckekonsten.

Genom att huvudsakligen använda materialet aluminium och med hänvisning till den historiska ringbrynjetekniken har jag skapat en serie smycken med målet att belysa vår önskan om att skydda oss själva.
Även om jag tror att skälet till att bära skyddande smycken idag skiljer sig från vårt historiska förflutna tror jag tanken och uppskattningen kvarstår av att bära något som verkligen erbjuder skydd.
Mitt verk syftar till att visa smycken som ger illusionen av att de verkligen skulle vara skyddande om de bärs.
