They intervene and combine. In segments comprising ideas, feelings and experience, the students adopt stances based on a process of advanced artistic scrutiny.
They ask themselves what it means to define oneself within one’s practice; what scope there is for traditions in a global context; how identity is formulated and voiced; how the sublime can be expressed and communicated through the object; whether art can mediate between humanity and nature; when the feeling of belonging transcends the local to become nomadic. Components, patchwork, collage, remnants, dissolution and interspace – in their questions this year’s bachelor students reflect the age in which they live.

During their three-year programme at Ädellab students are encouraged and challenged to investigate conventions within their practices in different ways to develop their own understanding of the potential that they offer. In dialogue with teachers and through wholehearted investigations of materials, techniques, form and function they establish practical and theoretical frames of reference. Using these as tools, the students probe into the concepts formed about jewellery and corpus: issues relating to the applied arts as attitudes and manifestations of material culture as a whole.

They position themselves at the rift between the known and the not-yet expressed. Here they assert their individuality as artistic practitioners and invite us to share their findings.
