Konstfack - Degree Exhibition 2012 / Vårutställning 2012

It is time for the students to speak, to speak with their work. Degree projects reflect so many things. Mostly they reflect the student, and his or her talent, ambition, skills. At the same time these works are an image of what our Department of Interior Architecture and Furniture Design stands for. We have been focusing more and more on the basic cornerstones of our profession, Space, Furniture, Color and Light. ( Rum, möbel, färg och ljus ) At the same time this is a reflection of the needs of today’s society and culture. It is time to focus. We are educating people in the field of Interior Architecture and Furniture Design. That is the responsibility we have to take.

This year we are extremely proud to present the work of our Bachelor students. During their Bachelor studies students learn the basic of our profession. We encourage them to complete their studies at the Master’s level later. But now it is time to take a look at where they are after studying for three years. As said, learning basics, finding tools for their future professional careers is in an important role, but the artistic starting point must never be forgotten. Critical thinking, questioning, are evident as well. As is learning about the basic procedures for managing a project.

And at the same time dreams and ideas have been carried through to the reality. We have encouraged the  students to dare to undertake the large-scale, to work outside and inside, with space and furniture. The field in which we can work with our program is widening as society and culture changes.

This year our bachelor students spotlight the Human Being when designing interior, environment and furniture. The playful human being, the old and demented human being, the human being who will spend a life in prison, the student, the person who need to rest for a while or the person who want to make his/her own furniture without visiting some commercial center.  The human beings on the other side of the world who need to build their houses in very cheap building materials. The reflective human being, the voting human being, the reading human being, the dancing human being or the human being who wants to collect items in a certain piece of furniture. Our students also place focus on techniques related to interior and furniture design, old techniques in new contexts and new techniques for the future,  techniques related to design and expression.

This year we wanted to display on a large scale, if possible full-size, with pride. We want to show these works straightforwardly, open up a discussion. We are happy and proud to send these talented students out into the world, working, experiencing, hopefully completing their studies at Master’s level later. And after that to start the lifelong process of learning more.
